Large selection of colorful quilling paper strips

Welcome to Hunter Creek Crafts Quilling Supplies - part 1

The Beginning

As a kid, my babysitter was into many different type of crafts including miniatures, building doll houses and quilling.  I gravitated towards quilling and became quite good at it. I would make different pieces and go to the craft shows with her and sell my creations. As I got older I lost interest because of school and other activities.  I didn't do any quilling for over 40 years.

Stress

A few years ago I was the technical lead for a high profile project at work. I started to notice that I was easily agitated at work and had to figure out a way to cope with the stress because it was affecting my job performance.  I happened to be looking around Pinterest and came across some quilling art.  I decided that I would try to get back into quilling and see if it would help with my stress levels.

Relearning old things

Quilling is not the same as riding a bike. I realized that I was basically starting over with the different techniques. I bought a starter kit from Amazon and started working on perfecting the basic shapes. I quickly went through the paper that was included in the starter kit so I had to find a place to buy more. I found a website that had several different vendors, including several from outside of the United States, and liked having the ability to see the different colors the various vendors had side by side. I bought all of my quilling papers from that website for the next few years. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I went through a lot of paper just trying to get my techniques sharpened.

Retirement

Just recently the owner of that website decided to retire. As I tried to find another website that had several different vendors I realized there wasn't another one in the United States. For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to own my own business.  The timing was right so I decided that I would try to create a new online store that provided the widest selection of quilling papers on the internet.

Startup

I'm a software engineer by profession so I thought to myself "starting up a new e-commerce website can't be that hard". The only problem is my experience has been with web applications, not e-commerce. I considered starting an Etsy shop but the fees they charge are not friendly to products that are inexpensive so my next option was Shopify.  After deciding on Shopify and coming up with the name of the business I started getting all of the paperwork done. Once we had our LLC papers completed and registered with the state for sales tax collection, I purchased our domain name.
